Caregiver Training
Our caregivers receive a minimum of 16 hours of training annually. The training is provided by our Human Resources department and covers a variety of topics related to Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and providing compassionate and effective caregiving. In addition to this, our caregivers receive training specific to client needs- such as if a client has special dietary needs or mobility concerns.
Along with our primary goals of client safety, we want to keep our clients mentally and physically stimulated and highly functioning for as long as possible. By closely collaborating with their family, we are able to create an individualized plan of care designed to enhance the quality of life of each of our clients. We select caregivers who have the compassion, communication skills and commitment to give this level of care. In addition, our caregivers also have a minimum of two years of practical experience that must be outside of their own homes/families.
Home Care Solutions Caregiver training includes:
- An understanding of Alzheimer’s and other dementias
- An understanding of Parkinson’s disease
- Techniques for communicating effectively
- Skills to understand and manage problem behaviors
- Accomplishing personal care tasks
- Planning meaningful activities
- Creating a safe environment
About our Caregiver Supervision
Home Care Solutions’ comprehensive delivery of services assures a level of caregiver support and supervision unique to this industry. We provide ongoing caregiver training by nurses and social workers, as well as 24-hour on-call backup.
Before your caregiver is assigned, an in-home assessment is conducted by one of our licensed Social Workers to understand the client’s needs and to assure a personalized match. After caregiving services begin, our Client Services Specialist makes regularly scheduled client visits to supervise caregivers, monitor each assignment and continually assess the client’s changing needs.
Additional caregiver support and training are provided as a valued service to assure quality care for even the most challenging situations. Comprehensive training focuses on the special needs of the elderly client and includes dementia care, behavior management, safety and professionalism. In-service training is required of all caregivers.
